Cannabis laws in Singapore
Illegal
Cannabis is strictly illegal in Singapore — small amounts mean prison, and trafficking more than 500 grams can attract the death penalty.
Official sources checked November 7, 2026. This is news information, not legal advice. Laws and local penalties change — confirm with the destination's official sources before you travel.
Before you fly
Carrying cannabis across a border is treated separately from possessing it inside the country. Even where buying is legal, taking it onto a plane can be a customs or smuggling offence, and a domestic flight can become an international one the moment you connect somewhere else.
Current law at a glance
- Buying and possessing
- There is no recreational retail access and no lawful recreational possession allowance. Official guidance lists possession below 330 grams as punishable by up to ten years, SGD 20,000, or both, with larger possession bands carrying substantially heavier imprisonment and caning.
- Smoking in public
- Consumption is criminal in public or private. Official guidance identifies up to ten years' imprisonment and a maximum SGD 20,000 fine for consumption — it is not merely a smoking-ticket offence.
- Medical cannabis
- No ordinary tourist medical-cannabis dispensary access was verified. Traveler medicine guidance distinguishes prohibited medicines from those eligible for prior approval, and a foreign prescription does not override prohibited-substance rules. Do not assume exceptional pharmaceutical access authorizes personal cannabis carriage.
- Home growing
- There is no personal home-growing allowance and cultivation is prohibited; an exact current cultivation sentencing range was not independently verified.
- Borders
- Official guidance lists trafficking, import or export below 330 grams of cannabis at five to twenty years and five to fifteen cane strokes; 330 to 500 grams at at least twenty years and fifteen strokes, with higher maximum imprisonment including life; and more than 500 grams as liable to death. These are cannabis thresholds, not interchangeable ones for resin or mixtures, and small quantities remain criminal.
- CBD
- Do not carry cannabis oils, edibles or CBD preparations assuming a foreign label or prescription makes them lawful. Exact treatment of a demonstrably pure CBD formulation should be confirmed with the authorities, and no general tourist CBD exemption was verified.

Practical questions
Can I buy weed in Singapore?
No. Cannabis purchase and possession have no recreational tourist exemption.

Can I smoke on the street or in my hotel?
No. Unauthorized consumption itself is criminal, and privacy does not make it lawful.

Can I bring prescribed medical cannabis?
Do not assume so. Traveler guidance does not allow ordinary personal importation of prohibited medicines, and a foreign prescription is not an exemption.

Can I bring it in, transit with it or fly home with it?
Do not carry cannabis through Singapore. Import and export are severely punished even below capital quantities, more than 500 grams of cannabis can attract death, and you should not assume airside transit is an exemption.

What about CBD gummies or oil?
Do not bring them without product-specific official confirmation. Cannabis products and controlled ingredients remain subject to drug laws, and a 'CBD' label does not establish legality.
